British XC Series round 3

In a race that had it all, the outcome was uncertain until the very end.  That is the outcome in terms of the minor placings, because Rosara Joseph took the race by the scruff of the neck, from the moment it started, and never looked back.

With round 1 winner, Annie Last, out due to illness, it was down to her team mate and fellow Olympic Development rider, Lily Matthews (winner of round 2) to step up to the mark.  But the Kiwi, Joseph was undeterred by the heavy rain and even heavier conditions and she set out hard, blowing the field to shreds.  By the end of lap one she had gapped the rest by over 2 minutes and remained unchallenged.

Behind Joseph it was all happening!  Kate Potter, who was recovering from illness retired.  Matthews, who was looking certain of second place, punctured and lost six places and behind her, Maddie Horton suffered a bad crash on one of the descents and was sent to hospital for stitches.

The minor places were suddenly up for grabs and it was Lee Craigie who took full advantage in securing second place, with Caitlin Elliot managing to hold off a challenge from Sue Clarke to grab the final podium position.

Round 4 moves to Dalby forest on July 3rd.
