British National Track Championships

Women’s Scratch

The race came down to a bunch sprint that played to the strengths of ex-sprinter, turned endurance rider, Anna Blyth of 100% ME.  Junior Harriett Owen took silver and Dani King picked up bronze.

The race started at a steady pace and it was Laura Trott who was the first to try to get away.  With 49 laps on the board the Junior World Omnium Champion attacked in the hope of getting a lap up on the bunch, but she was closed down and forced to settle back into the bunch.

Hannah Rich was the next to have a go, but she did not stay out on her own for long.  With 10 laps to go Marianne Brittan put in a big effort and she was joined by Louise Satherley.  These two rode well together but made no real headway and the moved was brought back at 5 laps to go.  Resigned to a bunch sprint, it was a case of picking the right wheel.  Dani King led out at the bell, but Anna Blyth easily came over her in the back straight and clinging to her wheel was Harriet Owen, who just passed Dani on the lin e.
