Lake CX165-W Women’s Road Shoe

The silver and pink version of the Lake CX165-W women’s cycling shoe looks like every little girl’s dream bike shoe: glossy silver with flashes of baby-pink, they will certainly turn some heads, but if you prefer a more classic colour combination then there's always the black and silver version to turn to.

Our tester found these to be a more wide-fitting shoe than many other brands, but of course this is quite a personal comment, all we can say is that it’s absolutely essential to try shoes on before you buy. There is however plenty of adjustment, thanks to the three Velcro straps, and they are easy to adjust on the go too. Performance-wise they are nicely stiff, courtesy of a fibreglass-injected nylon outsole and the heel-cups are lightly padded, so there was no heel slippage. Additionally there are air-vents, drain-holes and plenty of mesh for fresher-than-fresh tootsies come summertime.

They’re fairly comfortable, with padding in all the right places, and the silver leather seems hard-wearing, even after much use. Plus they didn’t mark too badly when dragged along the tarmac at speed (don’t ask)! The manufacturer boasts double stitched, high quality leather and it’s a fair bet these puppies will be with you forever; they might even survive a nuclear attack! Another plus, is that Shimano SPD -SL cleats fit easily, which always endears us to a shoe, they are also compatible with Look 3 bolt system.

So what are we saying? For around £70, you get a stiff, well-made and comfortable shoe that’s designed for lovers of pink, or if you prefer, there’s a stylish silver and black version too.
