Victoria Pendleton inspiring females of the future

Red magazine, which pitches itself as 'the thinking woman's glossy' has included Vicky in its Hot List of most influential women from sport, fashion, media, entertainment, business and other high profile spheres.   The list is all about “honouring the success of British women who are making a difference to their chosen industries” and Vicky is one of 20 women, under the age of 30, who have been named in this, the third year of the awards.

Vicky has been busy promoting cycling since her success in Beijing and so it is no surprise that the Olympic gold medallist, multi-World Champion and former Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year finds herself included on this prestigious list, with a number of other female icons.

We reported Vicky’s involvement with the women only Cylcetta Rides and this is just one great example of how passionate she is about encouraging women to take up cycling.  Red Magazine quote Dave Brailsford, British Cycling’s performance director say of Vicky ‘she is a fantastic role model and an inspiration to the younger riders.  She manages her on- and off-bike activities in an exemplary fashion.’

Imaginatively labelled ‘The Fast Tracker’ by Red Magazine, she finds herself alongside two fellow Olypmians; 23 year old Keri-Ann Payne, winner of silver in the 10k marathon swim at the 2008 Olympics and bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and 26 year old Christine Ohuruogu MBE, the winner of a gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games and twice named as British Athlete of the Year (2007 and 2008).

The list will appear in the April edition of Red.
