Stan’s NoTubes Oktoberfest

The summer is officially over and the days are starting to get shorter again, so it must be Oktoberfest time soon1 In fact it is only another six weeks before the NoTubes Oktoberfest powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport is coming to Bristol for the third 3rd issue of the season finisher.

On Saturday the 13th October there is an eight hour endurance event, as well as two four hour events… and all this with the by now typical Bavarian Oktoberfest twist.

The eight hour event as well as the morning four hour race will start at 9am and riders can take part in the ‘Festivities’ as solo riders, pairs or teams. The second four hour event will kick off half way through, at 1pm, so that riders who are keen to have a lie in will get their fix as well!

The NoTubes Oktoberfest will take place on the famous Ashton Court course, which is not just packed with fist class single track and super-fast to ride, but it is also pretty much completely weather proof. The lap is around 10km long and has around 150m of climbing in it – you can see more course details on the website.

The Oktoberfest wouldn’t be the Oktoberfest without some oom-pah music, lots of King Ludwig flags and a well-stocked bar.  They promise all of this (don’t worry they will go easy on the oom-pah music!) on Friday and Saturday night, backed up by our Bikefest DJs as well as the Luff Bus, who will be looking after the riders food intake over the weekend.

Fancy racing with the ‘big boys’?

Following last year’s appearance at the Oktoberfest, the Vito Sport Bike Riders United riders, Steve Peat, Martyn Ashton and Blake Samson, will be returning to Bristol for some more proper XC endurance racing. The guys will be around over the weekend chilling out in the arena but they will also try to lead their teams to victory. For that they are looking for some team members – so if you fancy racing the NoTubes Oktoberfest with Steve, Martyn or Blake then make sure you check the Vito Sport Facebook page for updates. Martyn told us the other day: "Can't wait for Oktoberfest again this year. I enjoyed last year’s event so much. The added competitive element of going against Steve and Blake will make it extra fun. I'm going to need some tough guys and girls on my team to have a chance against those two."

Entries – Solo entry to close this Friday (23rd)

We still have a fair amount of camping space left but if you are intending to stay over then make sure you get your entry in super fast. The same goes for the riders out there who are keen to tackle the Oktoberfest all by themselves – that is solo riders – as the category is filling up fast and will be closed on Friday (21st September) so better not delay if you want to be part of the Solo crowd at the NoTubes Oktoberfest.

RunRider powered by VDO

The day after the Oktoberfest we have something for all the riders who like to run as well as for all the runners who like to ride – welcome to the Bristol Run Rider Off Road Duathlon powered by VDO.

The event had its debut in 2011 for almost 150 competitors coming along to test themselves either as solo or as pairs.

This year there is the classic (all together 43.2km long) as well as the standard (all together 28.8km long) Run Rider on offer again. There is the option to compete as a pair or as solo ‘run riders’.

For the ride we are using the Oktoberfest course and for the run we have put together a challenging 5.4km long loop, which will utilise some of the nicest parts of the park.
