Craft Performance Thermal Jersey

Craft clothing is highly functional, but with carefully considered design and comfort that means it works for everyday use and the Performance Thermal top is everything we expect from them.

Craft Performance Thermal Jersey

Craft have used a brushed fabric on the inside, to give warmth and a fabulous feel next to the skin, this is combined with their Hexachannel fabric which we found works so well in their Thermal Top reviewed here and their base layers reviewed here.  This combination keeps you toasty whilst also working hard to wick away sweat to keep you dry.

One of the very interesting features of this jersey is the two way zip, that leads from the ribs up to a pre-shaped snug fitting high collar.  This gives more options for ventilation, without chilling your core and we found it easy to adjust on the move.  Behind the zip is a fine mesh panel which ensures air gets through, but enables you to still have a thin layer for protection without leaving you completely exposed to the elements.   Zipped up fully, the fit around the neck was close but comfortable – you don’t feel like you’re being strangled or restricted in any way, but you certainly don’t have to wear a scarf to keep the wind chill off your neck.

As you would expect from a bike specific top, it is ergonomically designed to fit perfectly on the bike and the super stretchy fabric means that it stayed in place when we were riding on the tops and on the drops.  The cut is nice and long in the body, with printed silicon around the hem to keep it in place and after four hours in the saddle, we can report that it didn’t budge an inch.

We tested it on some windy morning rides that were between four and six degrees and found it was a definitely improvement on the arm warmers, jersey and other layers that we had been piling on to keep warm!

We liked the contrast seams on the front, back and arms.  In addition there are reflective spots across the shoulders for visibility.

There are three useful deep pockets and a handy secure zipped compartment on the back of the middle pocket, to keys, change and a phone safe.   We have been fully utilizing all the pockets with food, a gilet and even a pump on some long club rides and nothing has fallen out.

The sleeves are generous in length and there were no gaps between wrists and gloves, but we thought the cuffs could do with some more elastication or silicone to keep them in place, as they were a slightly loose.

We tested a medium size and felt nice and snug, without being too tight along the shoulders and chest.  Our tester is on the small side of medium and found it was a little loose on her stomach and arms if she wore it over a light base layer.  On the plus side this allowed for an additional layer on those very typical British winter days, so we thought it might be worth considering buying the next size up to allow for layering.

The label advises washing at a temperature of 40 degrees and it washed well, didn’t run and dried quite quickly.  A real bonus if you’re on a spring training camp in Mallorca and having to wash your kit to use the next day!

Great performance in an attractive design, this super stylish jersey is suitable for Autumn and mild winter rides rides, but will see you through cool spring mornings as well.
