Gore Long Sleeved WINDSTOPPER Turtle Neck Shirt

The Gore Bike Wear Ladies WINDSTOPPER Turtle Neck base layer uses Gore’s amazing WINDSTOPPER fabric to give extra protection to all of the forward facing areas of the body in cold conditions.  The wind proof panel at the front is combined with a highly breathable fabric to keep you dry and we really loved the high neck of this turtleneck, which fits snugly thanks to the half zip at the front.

Gore Windstopper Turtleneck long sleeve base

Gore have designed the Ladies WINDSTOPPER Turtle Neck Shirt to be form fitting, so it sits close to the skin where it can function most effectively at wicking away sweat and it is gloriously ergonomic, so there is no rucking or tugging and if you tuck it into your longs, that’s where it stays.  We really liked the feel of this base layer next to our skin, but thought it worth mentioning that the WINDSTOPPER sections do not have the elasticity you would expect from a more traditional woven base layer.  Don’t be put off though, there is easily enough stretch in the non-wind proof sections to ensure there is absolutely no restriction of movement and the wind proof panels really have to be experienced.

To assist in keeping you dry, there is a highly breathable, light weight panel that runs down the centre of the back, it includes a small section at the back of the neck and also the under arms, all the way to the cuff.  This means that the front of the shirt, wrapping around to cover the kidneys and some of the lower back, the turtle neck and the forward facing parts of the arms, are all made from Gore’s WINDSTOPPER fabric.  This dramatically reduces wind chill on the body and means that this base layer delivers exceptional warmth from the highly functional fabrics and does not need to be heavy weight to do so.

The length is very generous, enough to allow for a good tuck in, which gives good coverage to the lower back and it has been put together with flatlock seams, to keep the potential for chafing at an absolute minimum.

The base layer has a half zip which allows for the neck to be close fitting and it can be used to give a little ventilation when you need it as well.  The zip tucks into its own little port when fully up, so no unsightly red marks under the chin and finally there is a reflective logo on the front.

Great for windy days and cold weather, this base layer really keeps the chill off the body, whilst also working hard to wick away sweat.  We loved the short sleeved version (reviewed here http://www.bikeenvy.co.uk/article.php?id=516) in summer and this is already a favourite for our winter rides.
