CRAFT Performance Bib Storm Tights

The CRAFT Performance Bib Storm Tights combine windproof panels with fleecy Roubaix fabric, that effectively balance the need for warmth and protection from the elements, with excellent temperature management.

CRAFT Women’s Performance Bike Bib Storm Tights

It is easy to underestimate these bib tights because they are incredibly light weight and first impressions are that they will not be warm enough for rides in deepest winter.  But we have come to know and trust CRAFT, so we have been testing these tights on the coldest days of winter and on our longest training rides.

Put them on and the nagging doubt that they are just not thick enough does not go away immediately.  In fact, for the first few minutes you will feel a bit of a chill around the back of your thighs, but once you are warmed up, you quickly realise they are absolutely perfect.

The windproof panels extend from the top to the bottom of the leg and cover all of the front facing areas.  And it is not just the wind chill they keep off, they are waterproof as well, so splashing through icy puddles or riding in winter rain holds no fear!   We have tested tights without waterproof panels and found they tend to absorb the wet and shortly after you end up chilled to your core, but not so with CRAFT’S Bib Storm Tights.

In fact you are so well protected on the front that you quickly appreciate the lighter layer on the rear of the leg and the overall temperature management is superb, which comes as something of a surprise the first time you try them.  We love that you don’t have to be wrapped in think heavy layers to survive the worst of the winter weather and we reckon they will be good into spring as well.

Multi-season use is helped by the fact that the bibs are made of a very light mesh fabric, so it is very easy to manage layers to suit the weather and different temperatures.

Getting them on and off is helped by zips that run from the ankle to the mid-calf.  It also allows for the legs to be more form fitting, despite the less elastic nature of the wind and water-proof panels and we thought CRAFT had done an excellent job of designing these tights so that they do not tug,  pull or ride up.

We liked the female specific pad too – it kept us comfortable on the longest training rides.  It feels a little bulky when walking around off the bike, but once in the saddle we did not give it a second thought, which we think is the highest praise you can give to a chammy!  And of course there are some reflective pipings, all well placed to draw a bit more attention to the rider.

These Storm bib tights are more than a match for the worst of the winter and they now form part of our go-to outfit for the days when the weather challenges our resolve.
