CRAFT Ladies Performance Bike Stretch Jacket

The CRAFT Ladies Performance Bike Stretch Jacket is a soft, laminated jacket, made from wind and waterproof fabric, whilst of course being wonderfully breathable, so it keeps you dry on the inside as well.  It is the perfect excuse to start shedding the winter layers!

The fit is snug, but ergonomically designed to work with the female body on the bike.  There is some stretch in the fabric as well, so there is complete freedom of movement and no riding up at the back or around the neck either.  All this and it flatters as well.

CRAFT are masters at using different fabrics with different functions in various parts of their clothing, to give the maximum functionality to the athlete (yes, that’s you!).  In the Performance Bike Stretch Jacket they have used a laminated stretchy outer shell, with Vent X Air panelling to give protection from wind and rain.  On the inside of the jacket you can see the body comfort system with different fabrics in different body zones.  Definitely worth a mention is the panel that sits on your back – it wicks away any sweat and magically transports it to the outer fabric of the jacket.  We noticed at our café stop that it was nice and dry on the inside, even though we had been working hard in the rain.

The fleecy collar offers a warm, comfortable fit around neck area and the zip has its own little port to tuck into, so there is no chance of chafing the chin – never a good look!

One of the things that really stands out is the amount of reflective print used, which gives 360 degrees of visibility and is an important safety feature.  It’s a real wow factor, particularly as the reflective print has been placed to enhance the overall style of the jacket.  We reckon the designers at Craft really know how to impress a lady!

The cut of the arms is generous and you can easily get away with gloves that have only a short cuff and know there won’t be any gaps.  However, this really has not been left to chance, as CRAFT have cleverly designed a super snug fitting elasticated cuff inside the bottom of the sleeve, that fits closely around even the slimmest of wrists whilst not been tight on larger ones either.

CRAFT have designed this jacket so it drops to hip level at the front and then sweeps down at the back and finishes around the middle of your bottom, giving good coverage to the lower back and kidneys. We tested this jacket on long rides where we were in and out of the saddle, climbing and descending on the drops, and we loved that it moved in sync with the body, offering complete freedom of movement.

As a final touch, there’s a very secure zipped pocket at the rear of the jacket. If you look at it from the inside of the jacket, you can see the mesh pocket encloses an additional secret pouch which is a secure place to carry a phone, or an iPod and it even has a small button hole that your headphones can be pulled through to keep it all neat and tidy. They really have thought of everything!

Mad about keeping our kit nice and clean, we washed this jacket at the recommended 40 degree cycle and it came out looking great.  After many hours in the saddle and repeated washing we did notice slight bobbling on the inside of the soft collar, but you could argue that is to be expected with the amount of rough and tumble we’ve put it through, all in the name of testing you understand!

Fabulously designed soft and supple jacket that, with the right layers, is warm enough to cope with what is left of winter and will be great all the way through spring as well.
