Cyclo-Cross National Champs - new date

The National Cyclo-Cross Championships, originally scheduled for 9-10th January have been postponed and will now be held on 6-7th February 2010 at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield.

We have been advised that whilst the course would have been rideable, the difficulty was in bringing support services, such as ambulances and other event vehicles, that were necessary to ensure safety and comfort for riders and supporters.

Helen Wymann, widely tipped to take a record equalling 5th consecutive Cyclo-Cross National title this year told BikeEnvy:

"Obviously its not a good situation, as a lot of people have put a lot of time and money into making the championships happen. I know everyone tried their hardest to make the event happen, but so much was against them, like the roads which made it impossible to get first aid on site and the set up of barriers and timing equipement.

If course it is difficult for the athletes who are racing.  We have set the nationals as goal for the season and have worked to peak for this event.  It will be difficult to recreate a peak in such short time and then there is the money that we have spent already travelling to the event (Helen lives in Belgium).

That said, att the end of the day, I don't think it will change the result of the elite men and womens races and that is what is most important."
