Fort William MTB World Cup

Having laid down a big marker in qualifying, Rachel Atherton (GT Factory Racing) won the Fort William World Cup for the first time in her career.  She blew the competition away, winning by a massive margin of 10.139 seconds over fellow Brit Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen DH Team), with French rider Emmeline Ragot (Lapierre Gravity Republic) completing the podium.

Rachel has finished second in Fort William on the last three occasions and so she knew better than most that she could take nothing for granted.  After qualifying fastest, Rachel spoke to Regdbull.tv  "Fort William is ridiculously hard. I've qualified first a few times here and you can't let your guard down," said Atherton her winning run.

"This is one I've never been able to win. All the way down the track, people are saying your name and it's hard to concentrate. Finally, I crossed the line here and heard cheering and not groaning."

Manon Carpenter had to settle for second place, but after suffering from food poisoning during practice, she should be happy to have held off Emmeline Ragot who worked hard for the third spot.

Round 2 of the World Cup will be held next weekend at Val di Sole World Cup and Rachel Atherton will start as the current series leader.
