Gore Base Layer Shorty+

The Gore Base Layer Lady Shorty is a really neat concept, a pair of shorts or big pants really, with a female specific pad that gives extra padding under winter longs, or which allows you to wear any of your normal clothes when cycling.

These liner shorts are really comfortable to wear.  Made from a super stretchy fabric with a wide elastic waistband, that minimises any cutting in at the waistline.  We did find the waistband was perhaps not as stretchy as we might have expected and we had to wriggle in, but once on, the comfort was not compromised at all.

Gore have used their Contest pad, which was designed for short and medium length rides.  The pad is low in bulk, seamless and wonderfully comfortable – as if you would get anything less from Gore!  We found it good for a couple of hours, and it will be really useful as extra padding on the longest rides in winter.

There is no gripper or elastic around the hem at the bottom of the short, which in our opinion is all good, because there are no mini-muffin tops to deal with, whatever you are wearing over them.

We found the cut just right, a close fit, with the back just high enough to give good coverage to the lower back when you are down on the drops and all the seams are flat-locked to minimise any risk of chafing.

The fabric feels soft next to the skin and the weave is close enough to spare your blushes if worn under a skirt that is caught by the wind while you cycle – we just loved the versatility of these shorts.

The Gore Base Layer Lady Shorty makes any pair of trousers, leggings, shorts or even skirts bike ready in an instant, or offers extra padding for long winter rides.
