Lake CX145 and MX145 – waterproof cycling boots

The Lake CX145 and MX145 look like the perfect response to winter, a highly water resistant shoe that will get you through the very worst of the British winter.

Lake CX145

At Bike Envy we are in denial that deepest winter is really just around the corner, but it is getting harder to ignore the people who keep telling us that we are heading for the worst winter since, well since we have been old enough to care.  Under those circumstances, Lake’s answer to keeping feet as warm and dry as possible – the CX145 for roadies and the MX145 for mountain bikers – could just make all the difference on those days when you look out of the window and your resolve starts to slip.

We have long believed there is no such thing as bad weather, but inadequate or inappropriate kit is a misery and given the suggestion that the winter of 2013/14 will be a “proper” winter, we just love the look of the CX145 and MX145.  Lake have combined waxed canvas, with leather and a waterproof membrane to give a seriously water resistant upper – at least that is what they tell us and we have come to trust the people from Lake, because in our experience they definitely know a thing or two about cyclists, feet and shoes.

Lake MX145

The sole of the CX145 is made from their competition fiberglass-injected nylon outsole and is 3 hole compatible and for those of us who like to get properly dirty, the Mountain bike version, the MX145 has non marking rubber tread for added purchase.

Both versions use Lake’s side mounted BOA lacing system, a system we have come to love on the 401’s.  Simply dial up the tension you require and there is no give until you pull the release.  Easy to adjust on the fly, it is in our opinion the ultimate no lace, lacing system.

We’ll let you know how we get on with the pair that is currently en route to our office and the arm wrestling that is underway to decide who gets to test them, but for now, we reckon the Lake CX145 and the MX145 are definitely worth a second look.
