Craft Active Bike Convert Jacket

Craft Active Bike Convert Jacket is made from windproof and water-repellent fabric and has zip off sleeves so it can be worn as a gilet, or a jacket and unlike others that have tried this concept, it really looks godd with the sleeves on or off.

Craft Active Bike Convert Jacket

Craft have developed a great looking jacket that gives great protection from wind and rain.  We have been riding with it in cold and wet conditions and it certainly ticks the box of keeping the rider both warm and dry.  It fits well and is a flattering fit.  It also benefits from being a good, strong, visible colour too.  Craft call it Amino, we call it yellow!

The fabric that Craft have used for this jacket is surprisingly lightweight, but combines great windproof and water repellent qualities and it is cut in a good tapered fit that works well for the female shape.  The fit follows the female form, but is loose enough to comfortably allow for layers underneath.

The conversion from gilet to full waterproof involves two short zips from near the neck to the start of the armpit (meaning no uncomfortable zips under the arms), and there is a small popper on the back of the neck as well.  While you couldn’t make the transition while riding (unless you had truly amazing flexibility and bike skills!) it is a pretty quick and painless switch to make.

It also looks like a gilet when in gilet mode and a jacket when the sleeves are on, which is impressive as often with these convertible jackets one of the configurations looks a bit unnatural. Not having zips extending under the arms is a really well thought out design feature, as this makes it much more comfortable when wearing it as a gilet.

The full length zip has a wind placket (that a strip of fabric that sits behind the zip) to keep the wind out and the zipper, which is wonderfully easy to grip even with gloved hands, tucks away into its own port when fully zipped up.  No chin chafing issues here.

The cuffs and neckline are comfortable and don’t pinch your skin, but they are close enough to stop the wind from reaching your core.  The jacket is cut with a really good length, giving great protection for the lower back and the arms are pre-shaped, so there is no pulling or tugging when you bend over the bars – just the kind of detail that we have come to expect and love from Craft.

There is some good reflective detailing on the arms and body as well, which is always a plus and one large zipped pocket on the back for valuables or the arms to your gilet!

The only reservation we had was that it was not as breathable as some of the (albeit more expensive) jackets we have tested, but we reckon it offers excellent value for money and, of course, with the option to wear it as a jacket or a gilet, this really is a jacket for all seasons.

If you’re looking for a lightweight jacket and gilet, that will keep the elements at bay, the Craft Active Bike Convert jacket is a great option.
