Gore Power SE jersey

Our first thoughts when excitedly ripping the Gore Power SE jersey out of its packaging were ‘wow - this stands out!’ The cut and feel of the fabrics just shout quality and we found it is full of little details which suggest Gore have put a good deal of thought into designing it.

Gore Power SE jersey

The Gore Power SE is an exceptionally feminine jersey, but Gore have achieved this without resorting to the standard kit manufacturer’s rather patronising approach of making it pink and / or putting flower on it.  It also stands out from the crowd – there aren’t a lot of jerseys out there which look or fit like this and we loved that Gore is designing for women from first principles, rather than simply rehashing men’s kit.

The Power SE jersey is fabulously well cut and the white panels on the sides are unbelievably slimming.  The hems of the arms don’t pinch and overall it’s a good length too.  Gore claims to have “ergonomically shaped the collar” and we found that it is certainly different to the usual cut of most cycling jerseys; really comfortable and isn’t too tight around the neck when you zip it all the way up either.

There is also some good attention to detail with mesh inserts under the arm for extra ventilation. Gore have also put some very effective piping on the seams and round the sleeves, which doesn’t sound like much but these are little details you don’t often see and it all adds up make this a really top quality jersey.

It has three decent sized pockets, which give plenty of room for anything you might want to carry – but honestly it would be a crime to spoil the fine lines of this jersey by packing too much into them! – and our tester felt they started quite far up the back, which made them a little tricky to get things in and out of on the move.  The small zipped pocket is a nice extra though, super secure for keys, money or phone.  The fact that the zip is green is unexpected but it really works!

There are small, subtle, reflective logos on the front and back, but they are understated and not meant to be the main feature of the jersey.

We were glad to see that this had a full length zip – great for extra ventilation and loo stops! – although we did find it a bit fiddly sometimes when using long finger gloves.

There is an elastic gripper on the back of the hem of the jersey which, combined with the exceptional fit, is all you need to stop it riding up your back when in the drops.

Gore’s microfiber fabric was as breathable as advertised and feels great to the touch too.  We are pleased to report it has survived a good number of washes and still looks like new, with no hint of bobbling, discolouring or loss of shape.

All in all, the Gore Power SE jersey adds up to be a really high quality garment for the discerning cyclist.  It’s well very made and is clearly going to last many thousands of miles of wear.  Most importantly though, it will make you look and feel great thanks the cut, clean lines and the use of colours.
