Shutt VR Isobel Jersey

The Shutt Velo Rapide Isobel Jersey is a super stylish, beautifully designed jersey that looks and feels great on.

Shutt Velo Rapide Isobel Jersey

For us, first impressions count and straight out of the bag, the Shutt VR Isobel jersey oozes understated style, in a classic design and fabrics that feel incredibly soft to the touch.  Look more closely and you won’t be disappointed, there are lots of little features that add weight to the belief that this jersey is really well thought out and nicely put together.

We have had the Shutt VR Isobel jersey on test for a few weeks now and we have really enjoyed wearing it, not least because it is a striking looking jersey that draws compliments from men and women alike.  The design is quite simple, with a broad band of white fabric sporting large multi-coloured spots around the chest, but the addition of white bands around the bottom of the sleeves and the white collar, really lift the look of this jersey and give it its very classic look.  That the collar is lined with the same spotted fabric that is used on the body of the jersey – a nice touch, when it would have undoubtedly been easier, but very much less effective to leave it plain white.

We always like a full length zip and again, the attention to detail that Shutt VR have lavished on this jersey is apparent, because this zip has ports at both the top and the bottom.  The zip is also reflective, which really makes the most of this element.

To aid ventilation and help keep the core temperature down, Shutt VR have included mesh panels in the sides of the Isobel jersey, something that has been very much appreciated in the glorious weather we have been enjoying.  Ideally, these panels could have run under the arms as well, but to be fair we have found the fabrics, which have been sourced from Italy and feel particularly lovely next to the skin, seem to be very good at wicking away sweat and managing body temperature.

Three drop pockets take up the full width of the rear panel of the Isobel jersey and as such are plenty big enough for any food or spare kit you might like to carry.  Actually we thought it a crime to spoil the beautiful lines of this jersey and so we have tried to avoid putting too much in the pockets – yes, vanity thy name is cyclist! – but we have found the fourth, zipped pocket particularly useful.  It is the perfect size for a smart phone and other valuables and the waterproof membrane between it and the body keeps anything that is stowed there safe from any sweat you might work up.

The fit of the Isobel jersey is figure skimming, rather than skin-tight and it is very flattering.  We liked the overall length, with a little extra at the back that gives good coverage to the lower back when riding on the drops.  There is a strip of elasticated silicone that runs around the bottom hem, which effectively keeps everything in place.

We know we need reflectives – it is always important to be safe and be seen – but often these can spoil a jersey.  Not so with the Isobel jersey which in addition to the reflective zip at the front and on the rear pocket, has reflective piping around the bottom edge, across the top of the pockets, plus logos front and back.  We thought they were really well done.

Really the only thing that lets this jersey down is the loose threads we found on some of the seams, where they have been over stitched to secure the ends and between the rear pockets – nothing that would compromise the integrity of the jersey, but disappointing in a jersey that came so close to perfection.

That we have grabbed the Shutt VR Isobel jersey so often when choosing kit for training during the past few weeks is testament to how gorgeous we think this jersey is, the fit, feel and function are all top-notch and we look forward to bringing you more from this very British brand.  Fabulously feminine, without even a hint of pink!
