UCI Track World Cup, London


The UCI Track Cycling World Cup London with an action packed schedule and a few surprises.


The event, the biggest international cycling event to be held at Lee Valley VeloPark since London 2012, saw international teams from 39 nations descend on the city.

Despite a shaky start, the women’s team pursuit saw an emphatic win in the gold medal race with Great Britain quartet - Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Ciara Horne - pushing Australia into the silver medal position.  Joanna Rowsell raced the qualifying round but missed the final race showing the team’s strength in depth in this discipline.


Canada recovered from a crash in the early rounds to pick up the bronze medal.

China win Team Sprint

In the women’s team sprint GB’s Jessica Varnish and Vicky Williamson also just missed out on a medal chance, finishing fifth in the qualifying stages.  China qualified fastest and then took a narrow victory ahead of current the World Champions from Germany.

And in the scratch race Colombia's Jannie Salcedo Zambrano and Lauren Stephens (America) lapped the field to secure the top two spots on the podium.  Poland's Katarzyna Pawlowska, was the best of the rest and won the sprint for the bronze medal.


Sadly racing was interrupted after a crash, which caused the race to be neutralized while medical staff attended to an injured rider. The racing resumed with five laps to go.
