The Helly Hansen Pace Tights 3 are great looking and highly technical tights that are perfect for the gym, after ride stretching, as well as core work, yoga, or even a cheeky off season run.

Helly Hansen Pace Tights 3

We have tested a lot of kit from Helly Hansen over the years and without fail we find it highly functional, beautifully styled and genuinely designed for women.  We love their base layers both on and off the bike and it is rare that we do not grab one of their fleeces when we leave the house, so it is no surprise that their Pace tights were an instant hit with us too.

In our opinion no one can teach Helly Hansen anything about fabrics – they have been developing and perfecting the material they use since 1961 – and the super stretchy fabric used in the Pace tights feels great, fitting like a second skin and giving support.  These tights are not compression fit but the feel is not far off that and it makes them nicely flattering too.

Of course the lightweight fabric is highly breathable and very quick drying.  We found any sweat wicked away in record time and if you get wet on a run, chances are you will be dry before you get home, weather permitting of course.  We loved the mesh panels behind the knees – just where you sweat most when the going gets tough – and since it is an area that is sheltered from the wind, you benefit from the superior wicking and cooling effect, without any risk of becoming chilled.

The cut of the Pace tights is of course fitted, but they accommodated curves in all the right places and if you hold them up and let the fabric drape, you can clearly see how Helly Hansen have formed the legs and knees so that they are pre-shaped to accommodate the natural shape of a body.  All of this means that they move beautifully with the body in motion and there is no tugging, pulling or restriction however extreme the yoga pose!

Under these circumstances it is very much appreciated that Helly Hansen have kindly incorporated a short lockable zip at the bottom of each leg.  This makes getting the Pace tights on and off stress free and did not involve any hopping around the bedroom or changing room on one leg.

They also have a very useful zipped pocket that is just the right size for keys or an ipod and handily the section that is next to the skin is waterproof too – nice attention to detail there.  The wide, comfortable waistband worked really well for us and although there is a drawstring on the inside of the waist, we found we did not need to use this.

And finally the Pace tights are held together with robust, flat locked seams and there are reflective inserts that give proper 360 degree visibility.  We have had the Pace tights on test for a while now and the signs are that they are made to last and honestly we could not find anything about them that did not work just as it should.

If you are looking for a high performance pair of tights for any off the bike activities, then the Helly Hansen Pace 3 tights are a great choice – boasting top of the range technical fabrics, designed to give a supportive, form fitting and functional fit, while incorporating some well thought out features.  In our opinion Helly Hansen have another winner in their range.
