Girls line up for Good Friday Meet

The Good Friday track meeting at Herne Hill has always attracted a good field of women, who are prepared to do battle with the boys, as well as race against each other.

This year, Dutch rider Birgitta Roos, riding for Baansprinters.nl, will add some international sparkle to a strong domestic line up, including Jessica Booth (Halesowen C  & AC) and Corrine Hall, Team Corridori, both of whom have represented Great Britain.

This is the first test of the new season and the ladies will have the opportunity to race a women’s only keirin, as well as taking to the line for the White Hope sprint competition and a 500m handicap sprint.  The handicappers have done such a good job in the past that it is not unusual to see women on the podium.

Another first is the Grand Old Ordinary One Mile Challenge Race which celebrates 100 years since its inception.  Regularly held at Herne Hill in the past, it has recently been held at venues all over Britain.  Phil Wray, of the Veterans Cycle Club said “It’s great that the event is ‘coming home’ for its centenary and that it will be contested in front of a huge crowd of spectators”.
