Helly Hansen Barlind Sneaker

If you like your kit to multi-task you are going to love the Barlind sneaker, which is actually a low profile, trail running shoe, designed to look like a very stylish sneaker, so it works equally well with jeans or running kit.

Helly Hansen Barlind Sneaker

The Helly Hansen Barlind sneaker is billed as a lifestyle shoe and since our every day style could be described as “sporty-casual” there are very few days when our outfit is not perfectly complimented by it.  We also had no hesitation in wearing it when heading off on for a training week, knowing that it would look and feel great while travelling, when heading out for coffee between sessions and also loving that it offers all the cushioning and support we needed for a cheeky run too.

Let’s start by being clear about the definitions, the low profile label refers to the difference in height between the heal of a shoe and the toe, so with the Barlind there is very little drop in height and that allows you, when running, to land on the mid foot and gives great stability, particularly on uneven surfaces.  It used to be that the greater the difference in height, the greater the cushioning but with advances in technology, it is now possible to offer great rebound and protection from lower profiles.

Helly Hansen have used premium EVA for the midsole combined with a removable EVA comfort footbed to look after the joints – tried and tested materials which have been used for many running shoes – and this is combined with a Helly Grip Outsole to give excellent grip on all the terrains we tried it on.

We wear trainers almost every day and consider ourselves experts on the subject having had the opportunity to test so many now.  Honestly, we thought we had seen and tried pretty much everything on offer, so imagine our surprise when we first put the Helly Hansen Barlind sneaker on and realised that they feel quite different to any other sneaker we had worn before.  That is thanks to the premium suede upper, which holds the foot much more securely than a more traditional sneaker, which has usually been designed to minimise weight.  So, yes, they weigh a little bit more than a sneaker with an all synthetic upper but, for us, the small penalty was forgotten about the moment we slipped them on and moved around in them for the first time.  And don’t worry about over-heating, the Barlind is lined with breathable mesh to move moisture away from the foot when the going gets tough!

The Helly Hansen Barlind Sneaker is possibly the most stylish sneaker ever and does the job of two pairs of shoes, making them awesome value for money.  Combining top notch materials, Helly Hansen has produced a shoe that represents a fusion of training technology and style in creating trainers that are chic, comfortable and cushioned.
