Alé PRR 2.0 Strada Jersey

The Alé PRR 2.0 Strada Jersey is a body skimming winter training jersey which offers protection from both wind and rain, whilst also being breathable enough to make it perfect for rides when you want to pick up the pace a bit.

Ale PRR Strada Jersey

Alé offer a sizeable range of long sleeved training jerseys, with the PRR 2.0 Strada near the top.  With the brand taking Europe by storm and boasting production exclusively in Italy, this jersey is everything you would expect from a top end winter training top and it oozes style, with excellent quality and attention to detail as well.

We tested the Alé Solid Bib tights here and found them a great go to piece for winter training but the Alé PRR 2.0 Strada Jersey is a significant step up.  The front and side panels are made using a bonded windproof fabric, which we found offered very effective protection from wind and rain.  The back panel is insulated and includes an inner storm flap across shoulders, a combination that provided warmth whilst also being surprisingly breathable. And finally, the under arm panels are made from a lighter material and along with flat-locked seams, it all adds up to offer excellent breathability and temperature management.

We thought the combination of fabrics was a great success; the Alé PRR 2.0 Strada Jersey is both warm and breathable – we really don’t like to wear too many layers and this jacket was insulated in all the right areas, so that it could be worn over just a warm long sleeved winter base layer on days when the temperature was down to around four degrees.  It also offered very effective protection against light rain and showers.  However, if you are riding in really wet conditions you will want a rain jacket – we think that is probably stating the obvious but best we say it as it is!

One feature that is unique to Alé is their “J-Stability System”. Put simply this is the use of a shaped, elasticated double-layer panel of perforated fabric, which is inserted at the front of the jersey in the waist hem.  This panel is two inches deep at the sides, tapering to one and a half inches at the zip and it is shaped to hold the jersey in position.  Alé have added some tried and trusted silicone gripper around back hem and after a good few hours in the saddle, we can confirm that it all works really well with the overall design of the jersey to keep it from riding up and also adding to the overall “race-fit” and feel of the garment.

Ale PRR Strada Jersey features the J Stability System

For the PRR 2.0 Strada Jersey, Alé have used a full length, reflective zipper (we like all the visibility we can get, so thank you for that), with a panel of wind protective fabric behind it and a high vis zip port for the zip pull to be tucked into. All nice little features which demonstrated the thought that has gone into the design.

Another interesting feature is the cuffs which are anatomically shaped to give the perfect fit around the wrists – there was definitely no cold wind getting in there and we found they worked really well with winter gloves.

The neck offers a good close fit and first rate protection, all helped by an additional insert (made from the same material as the cuffs) which adds height at the back and increases the coverage of the base of the neck without any unwelcome tightness.

And finally, no training top would be complete without pockets and Alé have added three useful pockets to the back.  The right hand pocket is zipped and reflective, and it is balanced by a reflective insert on the outer edge of left hand pocked, plus there is also a hole for your headphones cord from back pocket into body of the jersey should you wish to listen to some tunes as you train.

The Alé PRR 2.0 Strada jersey is a feature packed winter jersey, using high-tech fabrics that have been lovingly put together in Italy.  It is a close fitting jersey offering both warmth and breathability and we can see why it is a favourite of the Ale pro team when they want to do some high intensity training in colder weather.
