Odlo SUW crew neck performance light base layer

We do love a good base layer and there is no doubt the Odlo SUW crew neck is a great base layer, one that offers unrivalled comfort and breathability, keeping us cool when the heat is on and with anti-bacterial tech to keep us smelling sweet too.  All that and it comes in a range of five groovy colours.

Of course we’ve had ample opportunity to test hot weather kit this year and so the SUW crew neck performance light base layer from Odlo has seen some action.

It shares some of the same features as we found in the Seamless Sports Bra reviewed here.  For a start both are seamless, which is really appreciated under the race fit clothing and skinsuits we have been wearing it with.  Of course the figure skimming design Odlo have used for their SUW crew neck performance light base layer has the advantage that it keeps the fabric in contact with the skin whatever you are wearing and this ensures it helps transport sweat away from the body with ease, whilst the seamless construction ensures total comfort and gives it a second skin like feel, which is blissfully light and soft to the touch.

All of Odlo’s sports underwear, and for the record that is a range of 130 products for women alone, is made with fabric that incorporates what they call “Odlo Effect”, the bonding of silver to the fibres of the fabric to combat bacteria and thereby reduce odours from sweat.  We are always happy to work up a good honest sweat but we can do without the pong that some base layers seem to cultivate, so trust us when we tell you that we really put this technology to the test and found it was every bit as good as we were promised it would be.

The fabric Odlo have chosen for the SUW crew neck base is fabulously breathable and with plenty of stretch too.  That is a function of the 3D structure but in addition they have used three different weaves to create “functional zones” which give greater ventilation where you need the base to work hardest.  So the very lightest weave is used under the arms and between the shoulder blades, where the fabric is almost mesh-like.  This gives way to a highly breathable but slightly heavier weave across the top of the shoulders and down to the mid back, as well as under the breast bone.  In practice it means that this really is a great option for hot conditions or anything indoors.

Of course Odlo are no new comers to the apparel market, they have banked 70 years of innovation and their membership of the Fair Wear Foundation - an independent, non-profit organisation that works to improve conditions for workers in garment factories - speaks volumes about their social responsibility too.

We have loved testing the Odlo SUW crew neck performance light base layer and found it offered stand out comfort and breathability, wicking away sweat and keeping us dry in the hottest of the summer conditions this year.  We won’t be putting it away any time soon either because it works just as well indoors and we know we will be turning away from the road to the turbo and gym soon.  The odour beating technology is a serious plus and alongside the superior comfort of a seamless design, and all of that adds up to an option that has been our go to base for a while now.
