Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein

Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein is a surprisingly tasty vegan blend of pea and rice proteins with adaptogenic superfoods; ashwagandha, maca, ginseng and schisandra, further enriched with vitamin C and B6, plus yerba mate.  And all of that comes with no added flavours or sweeteners.

If you are thinking ahead to the New Year and wanting to get into some healthy habits now then Bioglan is a brand which is worth getting to know better.  The brand values include quality, diversity (in people and diets), nutrient density and transparency.  They believe in making little changes which then add up to better health and greater happiness.  They promise to “harness the innate wisdom of ancient cultures that are tested, proven, and delivered to your pantry using the latest knowledge and technologies.”  We like all of that.

We recently had the pleasure of testing their Superfoods Super Protein and when it arrived we couldn’t shake the feeling that something about the brand looked familiar.  It turns out we had already bought into the brand as we have been adding Bioglan Superfoods Organic Cacao powder to our coffee and other smoothies for a little while.  So the brand gets the ultimate endorsement from us – we choose to buy it for ourselves and will continue to do so long after the testing period is up and you cannot get a more honest recommendation than that.

Back to the Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein, we have been trying to find tasty, non-dairy protein options for recovery drinks post training and simply to boost our protein levels overall, but the ones we have tried to date have been unpalatable and joyless to consume.  So imagine our delight when we tried the Bioglan Superfoods option and found it really rather delicious.

We have been adding Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein to live goat’s yoghurt and non-dairy equivalents for breakfast, or as a pre/post-training snack and for a bit of a change we even added a little of their Organic Cacao powder too.  Interestingly we found the protein powder worked equally well with both sweet and savoury options, so we sprinkled it on salads, added it to pancakes, as well as mixing it with smoothies and we never came across a recipe it did not enhance – high praise indeed because we tend to be a bit fussy.

So what puts the “super” into Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein?  Well that’s not a quick one to answer but the addition of vitamins B6 and C is probably the easiest to cover off.  Vitamin B6 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, so it is vital for physical activity.  It also plays a role in the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins as well as contributing to the functioning of the nervous system and the immune system too.  Vitamin C also helps with the normal function of the immune system and energy metabolism.  It is also important for collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth and protects cells from oxidative stress.

The adapotogenic nature of the superfoods in Bioglan Superfoods Super Protein, specifically ashwagandha, maca, ginseng and schisandra are a huge part of what makes it special.  Adaptogens are herbs and roots which have been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions because they help the body deal with stress, whether that stress comes from physical, chemical or biological sources.  We recently read that “Adaptogens may do for your adrenal glands what exercise does for your muscles” and we thought we could not have put it better ourselves.

And finally, we should mention the yerba mate tea which, in fact, we have been drinking for years.  Traditional in South America, this tea is known for being high in antioxidants (higher than even green tea) as well as being gently stimulating and anti-inflammatory.

If you thought being healthy was likely to be difficult then think again, Bioglan Superfoods have made it tasty and easy, with a fabulous range of healthy foods.  The protein offers are particularly sustaining – no hunger pangs and none of the crash that comes follows sugar laden snacks.  Roll on a happy and super-healthy New Year!
