Gore C7 women cc Jersey

We had to take a cold shower after writing our review of the Gore C7 Long Distance Bib Shorts+ (you can read it here) and we are almost as excited by the Gore C7 Women CC jersey.  So hold onto your hats, this is going to be another chance for us to use all the superlatives we have in our vocabulary in an effort not to repeat ourselves.

The really special thing about the C7 collection is that it is genuinely “pro”, by that we mean designed by pro-cyclists to meet their very exacting criteria for function and fit, and that means we mortals can do our cycling thing in greater comfort and with more style than ever before.  Whether you are self-isolating with your turbo or riding out on your own, you will appreciate the way this range feels when you slip it on and we have loved testing it over the past couple of months.

Gore’s C7 range comes into its own in hot weather and while it has been a difficult couple of months, the sunshine has definitely helped and it has given us ample opportunity to put the Gore C7 Women CC jersey to the test.

One of the first things we noticed was the incredibly light-weight and silky feel of the fabric.  In fact the jersey weighs just 110 grams and Gore has used a combination of high-tech fabrics to ensure the best possible temperature management.  This includes mesh for the arms and under arm area, which wraps over the shoulders finishing in line with the pec’s.  We found the combination worked exceptionally well, allowing sweat and heat to dissipate very effectively, and when we did manage to build up a sweat it dried quickly.  The overall feel is light and airy, with the full length zip easy to open up on the longer climbs.

The Gore C7 Women CC jersey is billed as “race fit”, offering minimal wind resistance and close to zero bulk.  We found it just a little slimmer fitting than other jerseys we have had from Gore, we would not describe it as tight fitting and it certainly did not need to stretch over any of our female curves, but it did skim them and the fabric drapes beautifully to give a very flattering look.  The design includes a slightly dropped tail, which required no nasty silicone to keep the lower back covered, and the sleeve length is just right at 20.5cm.  Even the collar has been given the “pro” treatment - Gore tell us it is ergonomically shaped, which in practice means it does its job without you being aware of it at all and in particular it does not bunch up annoyingly under your chin.

Of course no self-respecting cycling jersey would be complete without storage and the Gore C7 Women CC jersey does this well with three generous patch pockets, which allow for an even distribution of load and the broad band of elastic along the top edge works very effectively to stop things bouncing out.  In addition to these Gore has added a secure zipped pocket for valuables, which is perfect for keys and some emergency money.

We can’t get enough of the Gore C7 range and we have been wearing the shorts, jersey, socks and gloves almost non-stop.  The co-ordinated look is particularly striking and we know that if we look good, we feel good, which makes this jersey worth every penny of the otherwise eye-watering £99.

So if you feel like spoiling yourself you will love the Gore C7 Women CC jersey.  It is truly an investment piece which comes with a warning – once you have worn it you may find your other kit just does not measure up any more because this is lightweight cycling jersey loveliness at its best.  Gore have married form and function in a way that has to be experienced to be believed, so as long as the sun is shining we will be washing and wearing this jersey over and over again.
